The initial step of the appointment involves a basic cleaning where a dental hygienist removes tartar, flosses and polishes your teeth. The polishing treatment can only mitigate minor staining on your teeth. If you have moderate to deeply stained teeth, you might want to ask them about your teeth whitening options.
The second stage of the checkup the dentist inspects your mouth for any signs of tooth decay and gum disease. This also includes a basic oral cancer screening, where they will check your tongue, throat, face, head and neck looking for any signs of infection, swelling or cancer.
